Program Notes
For a song about a king who has lost everything, Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” has an uncanny ability to bring people together. Years after its release, it remains one of those rare songs that audiences seem to know by heart.
This arrangement for two pianos and string quartet or string orchestra captures both the song’s grandeur and its infectious energy. After a restrained opening, the music suddenly springs to life, propelled by interlocking piano rhythms, driving grooves, and soaring string textures. The strings bring color and sweep reminiscent of the original recording, while the pianos add a virtuosic edge that makes the arrangement especially effective in live performance.
