“Soave sia il vento” (“May the wind be gentle”) is the lyrical trio that concludes Act I of Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Women Are Like That). In this scene, two sisters—joined by their philosopher friend—bid a bittersweet farewell to their lovers departing by sea. This two-piano transcription faithfully captures all three vocal lines and the continuous stream parallel thirds played by the violins, which evoke both lapping waves and whispering wind.
